Who We Are

Objectives

Global Insurance AntiFraud Professionals (GIAP) is an association of insurance claims examiners, investigators, insurance attorneys and legal advisers around the world. Members also include Medical Consultants who review health insurance claims. Members share insurance fraud knowledge and claims experiences for professional enhancement.

It is also a platform to train and certify life, health, and travel insurance claims examiners and fraud investigators. It takes up the challenge to solve the dearth of trained, knowledgeable, and experienced life, health, and travel insurance fraud examiners and investigators.

Common training and experience worldwide

We strive to reduce the payment of fraudulent insurance claims no matter the region of the world and far-flung the location of the claim. We know that often insurers worldwide opt to pay some fraudulent claims because there are no knowledgeable and experienced fraud investigators in the locality. They do not want to receive a report that is incompetently investigated and thus be compelled to pay the claim as well as the investigator’s charges. With the coming together under this umbrella, members can source investigators who share common training, knowledge, and experience in every radius of the globe.

For instance, the travel insurer in Africa may receive a claim originating from Fiji and would be at a loss how to investigate it. And conversely, a life insurer in Fiji may receive a claim pertaining to the alleged death of the policyholder in Tunisia and find it a challenge to investigate it. Some insurers, we are aware, engage members of staff of their country’s Embassy in the country the claim originated to investigate the claim. Others seek security professionals, retired law enforcement officers and military personnel, lawyers, physicians, and sundry individuals they can access on the Internet!

Most insurers though engage private investigators, but the Private Investigator (PI) is not an Insurance Investigator! Their glaring pedagogical, professional inadequacies and shortcomings are often exposed when their insurance cases are litigated in the courts. That is why insurance practitioners often contend that the courts always take the side or favor the claimant no matter how fraudulent the case might be. We posit, however, that if a claim is well investigated but poorly reported, what do you expect the courts to do?

There is no body of knowledge in private investigation that teaches them insurance principles, practice, and the tactics and strategies to uncover fraud perpetrated by health providers around the world. These subjects and more are sine qua non in insurance investigation.

These challenges are what we attempt to resolve by establishing this professional body and the Associate Certificate cum CIIP program we currently offer. The certificate is awarded to candidates who are members of the association and pass the test specified for it. Five publications are presented as compulsory reading materials and all publications of the association or ancillary titles. They are made available to the candidates on registering for the program.
